Therapy for Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families (ACA)
It’s not about blame
It’s about understanding how your upbringing affects your attitudes, perceptions, and relationships today. Growing up in a household where you learned to hide what you think, how you feel, and what you want leads to tremendous struggles with trust, self-esteem, and developing healthy relationships later in life. Depression, difficulty with intimate relationships, and addictions are common results. You may not even recognize that, “Don’t talk, don’t feel, and don’t trust” were messages communicated to you from an early age, but these messages affect every interaction you have today; with others, with God, and with yourself.
What is ACA designed to do?
At its core, ACA helps people:
Understand why they think/feel/react the way they do
Break cycles of dysfunctional relationships
Develop self-worth and emotional stability
Learn healthier communication and boundaries
Build a sense of identity
